Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Kyle Fletcher - AEW TNT Title Match 

So, Ciampa is in AEW now. I haven’t watched his first weeks of competition, but I made it a point to catch this after hearing all the rave reviews. I don’t think I got what most did out of this. I don’t say that to sound negative or downplay what was clearly a fiery ass match perfect for what it was. The biggest thing I got out of this just wasn’t anything new. Ciampa is what he has always been. And he has never been bad. He’s always had the intensity and the fire. He can go back and forth and hit all the false finishes you could ask for. I didn’t learn anything new about Kyle Fletcher, just further affirmation that he can go and even outdo his predecessors. The biggest takeaway here is that AEW has perfectly handled the presentation of Ciampa since he showed up and even the continued presentation of the future of pro wrestling, Kyle Fletcher. This was never gonna be a bad pairing. The crowd is in both their hands and in two totally different regards. It’s a perfect storm. And we already know these dudes can keep the work rate up. So, yeah. They did that shit. Perfect PWG mid-card tribute, but the good kind. Not the overdone, weak kind. This was strong and it was good. I’m just not about to slap a 4+ star rating on it. Fletch captures his second TNT Championship in a barn burning TV contest.

1) Swerve Strickland vs. Darby Allin 

Any time these two lock up, it’s a blast. It’s their second meeting in AEW, with their first coming almost an exact year prior to this on the 27th of April last year. That match was in the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament. This was a lot more fun than their match last year. That one wasn’t bad by any means, this just had some extra juice to it with Swerve being fairly fresh off his heel turn. Plus, they threw in some way crazier spots like the reverserana off the apron to the floor. Great match to kick off the show. Darby catches Swerve with the last supper flash pin thing for the three count. 

Match rating - ***1/2

After the match, MJF comes down and we get another long winded 10 minute talking segment. Darby shows some good fire and thankfully Sting shows up to save the whole thing with his pom poms. It’s also worth noting that they showed Jack Perry watching the match on a screen backstage earlier. 

2) Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ QT Marshall & Aaron Solo) (c) vs. Silas Young - AEW TNT Title Match

This was exactly what it should have been. Less than 2 minutes, a full on squash. Hobbs destroys Silas and retains his championship. Let’s fuckjng go. 

After the match, cameras cut to the parking lot where Wardlow destroys Hobbs’ precious car that he arrived to the building in earlier. Wardlow breaks the windows out then takes a forklift to it and it is god damn hilarious and great. Hobbs is pissed and tries powerbomb Silas Young off the stage through a table, but Wardlow's music hits to make the save and he delivers a powerbomb to Aaron Solow off the stage. 

In a pre-tape, Jay White and Juice Robinson declare themselves as BULLET CLUB GOLD and that they are gonna take over AEW. 

3) Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Buddy Matthews (w/ Julia Hart) - AEW International Championship Match

Buddy comes out to motherfucking Eyes Adjust by Twitching Tongues. I am not a fan of the King of 205 Live Kenny Omega cosplayer, but between that entrance and his performance here, he’s gaining some points. This was much better than I ever anticipated. They worked the injured hand of OC story very well while still hitting all their spots and having some cool exchanges. The finishing stretch was more than just false finishes as they once again played off the injured hand of OC with it affecting certain things he would try or execute. This was just a great TV match. OC retains with a flash pin of sorts. I doubt we see a Buddy singles match this good for another 6-12 months unless they put him in there with Danielson or something.

Back from commercial and after the match, the Best Friends and Orange Cassidy are backstage with Renee Paquette. OC is fresh off his title defense and has his arm iced. Best Friends challenge Aussie Open to a match for the IWGP Tag Titles on Rampage this week.

Ethan Page is in the ring when we return to the arena. He wants to know why Matt Hardy did what he did last week. Hardy & Isaiah Kassidy walk down and Big Bill & Lee Moriarty show up. HOOK is here for the save, but the numbers are still too much especially with Big Bill in there and I'll be god damned if it ain't JEFF FUCKIN HARDY making his return to clean house. WOW! Jeff is back and nails the swanton and we are in business bayyybeee.

Before the next match, Kenny Omega speaks in a pre-tape from home. He addresses the Blackpool Combat Club and everything they’ve done to he & The Bucks. Kenny says it’s gonna be worse than blood for blood when the Elite get their hands on BCC. 

4) Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Michael Nakazawa & Brandon Cutler 

Buddy.. this was everything I needed it. Before the match, we got replays of Mox busting Don Callis wide open and here we see he & Claudio jump Nak & Cutler before the bell. They get more in than you’d expect, and they both bleed. It’s just good, good shit. Claudio & Mox win obviously and they continue the assault on a bloody Brandon Cutler after the bell with help from Wheeler Yuta. 

Match rating - ***

As Yuta, Mox & Claudio are destroying the boys some more, KENNY OMEGA’s MUSIC HITS. Man oh man. I came unglued for this. Kenny is bouncing around at the top of the ramp like The Rock. Mox gets on the apron and jumps to the floor telling him to come on. These two haven’t touched in like 2 years. Meanwhile, THE YOUNG BUCKS SLIDE IN THE RJNG FROM BEHIND AND DOUBLE SUPERKICK CLAUDIO AND YUTA. I’m fuckjng screaming. Bucks & Kenny corner Moxley. They bring out a tool box and Kenny breaks out a screwdriver as a throwback to what Bryan Danielson did to Hangman Page last week. Mox literally tells Kenny to bring it on and says he doesn’t have the balls to do it. Kenny goes to and CLAUDIO & YUTA PULL HIM OUT TO SAVE HIM. Love when them boys bail out like chicken shits too. Mox & Claudio throw beers from the crowd at the Bucks in the ring as they retreat. Kenny runs down to the railing with a chair. The crowd is molten and so am I. I loved this. 

5) Riho & Skye Blue vs. Toni Storm & Ruby Soho 

From that insane segment and match to RIHOOO. I’m a happy motherfucker right now. This match is a blast. I can’t remember much of the specifics of it because I was busy buzzing, but it was a breeze to watch and Riho working under with the up&comer Skye Blue as her partner was the perfect little pairing to go up against the rudo unit of Storm & Soho. 

Match rating - ***

We get another awesome run in segment after the match where Jamie Hayter makes the save as the Outcasts spray paint Riho. But the numbers are still too much and DMD BRITT BAKER HITS THE RING FOR THE BIG POP AND SAVE. She cleans everyone out on the ramp/at ringside and it rules. This last 45 minutes has been stellar television, bud. 

6) Keith Lee vs. Chris Jericho 

The way this match was set up was pretty cool. And on paper, it’s sort of cool, I guess? In reality, it’s a whole lot of whatever. Definitely the weakest match on the show even though I enjoy both of these guys in certain environments. This was far from their worst respectable efforts, though. It just wasn’t much more than fine. Swerve Strickland causes a distraction and Jericho is able to get the cheap victory when all is said and done. I guess we are headed back toward that story now and rightfully so since it never got a proper finale. 

Match rating - **1/2

After the match, the JAS jump Keith Lee and Adam Cole comes down to make the save and help Lee to the back. Cole does the same little bit that Jericho did the other week and refuses to acknowledge him aside from looking back at out of the corner of his eye ever so slightly. This closes the show.

1) Juice Robinson vs. Ricky Starks

I’m gonna be completely honest, I saw that this was up first and continued working on some music, only to turn around and see Jay White in the damn ring helping Juice assault Starks. Everyone knows I’m drained on anything Bullet Club related and Juice in AEW does nothing for me, and I’m top of that I’m not necessarily a massive Jay White fan. HOWEVER, a surprise Jay White debut instead of a 12 minute Juice match on dynamite? I’ll get riled up over that. Awesome, unique way to start the show that definitely breaks the formula that AEW normally uses. Jay & Juice too sweet and commentators are openly referring to this as Bullet Club which is interesting to me considering White is no longer under contract to NJPW and neither is Juice.

Backstage, Chris Jericho has an interview about Adam Cole. Keith Lee walks up and says he’s had battles with Adam Cole in the past, but he has respect for him. Jericho doesn’t and he challenges him to a match next week to teach him a lesson in respect. 

2) House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, & Buddy Matthews) (c) (w/ Julia Hart) vs. Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Chuck Taylor, & Trent?) - AEW Trios Title Match 

Decent little match here. They don’t run too long and we get signature OC/Best Friends stuff which Dynamite wouldn’t feel the same without. These two teams on paper are the perfect foil for one another gimmick wise. In ring, it’s fine. They run through stuff, the best part for me is Brody King. The way they built toward Trent hitting a piledriver on him was great. Buddy pins Chuck in the end to retain.

Match rating - **3/4

In a pre-tape, Christian Cage is staring at us as Luchasaurus walks up out of some smoke with some crazy new mask on.

3) Jamie Hayter (c) (w/ Britt Baker) vs. Riho - AEW Women’s World Championship Match

This will always be a great match. Jamie is the best women’s wrestler in the world and Riho is the Rey Mysterio of AEW. Everyone loves her and she’s phenomenal fighting from underneath, especially against a brute like Jamie. It was a little tough because both women are babyface now, but it was still a very good back & forth match and easily the best match on this show. Jamie retains after a couple of ripcord lariats. 

Match rating - ***1/2

The Outcasts are backstage after Jamie’s celebration. Ruby Soho says that she better not get too comfortable with that title because one of the three is coming for it soon. Saraya plugs their shirt and Renee sends it back to the ring. 

BACK ON THE STAGE AND MATT MENARD & ANGELO PARKER ARE HERE. After we find out what makes Daddy Magic’s nipples hard, The Acclaimed interrupts. Amazing reaction for them. Ang & Menard are still trying to get The Acclaimed to join JAS so they got them an 8 man tag together for Rampage. They do the scissor me bit and yeahhhh! 

It’s MJF DAY. They show clips of him earlier in the day getting the key to Long Island. We cut back to the arena and MJF comes out and does a full fledged performance with a band backing him. I thought we were gonna get out easy and only get singing from him instead of a long winded promo, but I was wrong. The singing was lowkey so much better. He tells a story about some teacher who doubted his wrestling dream and calls her a stupid bitch. He says any kid out there watching should know they can do anything in life if they work hard, but the one thing no one can do is be MJF. On his way back up the ramp, Jungle Boy is disguised as a member of the band. He attacks MJF and they get pulled apart as Sammy Guevara comes out for the next match.

4) Sammy Guevara vs. Komander 

Guevara poses with MJF’s World Championship at the top of the ramp before coming to the ring. He’s coming off a victory over Konosuke Takeshita on Rampage. An unfortunate occurrence followed by another unfortunate occurrence here as he defeats Komander in a match that was very much a Sammy match. They do stuff, most of it doesn’t make sense, but Komander isn’t able to fully go off so it’s less fun than most of his matches as this is more about him bumping around for Guevara. Darby Allin is in the rafters looking on and the cameras show him. They’re hyping up this pillars four way very well, even though I’m not sold on it as a PPV main event level match. Guevara wins with his finisher thing. 

Match rating - **1/2 

4) HOOK vs. Ethan Page (w/ Matt Hardy) - FTW Title Match

HOOK is HOOK and is cool. He retains in under two minutes and for some reason they are running this back again on Rampage on Friday. 

Backstage or in a pre-tape, Nigel McGuinness & Tony Khan with some help from Adam Cole announce the return of All In with AEW’s debut in the UK at WEMBLEY FUCKING STADIUM ON AUGUST 27th. Unbelievable. 

5) Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, & Wheeler Yuta (w/ Bryan Danielson) vs. SOME JOBBERS

Minute or so long squash and it rocks. BCC stands tall and Danielson cuts a promo on why he realigned with BCC and how much he loves each of his stablemates.. even Yuta who is in his words “a little shit” .. Danielson goes on to say there are no other real professionals in AEW and no other real wrestlers in the building besides them. HANGMAN PAGE COMES DOWN TO CHALLENGE THIS AND GOES RIGHT INTO THE FIRING SQUAD. Mox, Claudio, & Yuta beat him down. Danielson screams that he’s an amateur. Danielson says he has no friends and is not a pro wrestler. God damn this rules. Danielson then pulls out a screwdriver and jams it into the face/eye of Page. Crazy ass segment and this heel BCC run continues to deliver. 

6) The Gunn Club (c) vs. FTR - AEW World Tag Team Title Match 

This was just a bad.. bad match. Thank god the Gunn’s title reign is over and thank god FTR finally has those titles back, but good grief, this sucked. FTR gave them way more than they deserved. I was unable to bite on any of the nearfalls. It just felt clunky and full of good ideas with bad, not smooth execution. Whatever. It’s over. FTR wins like we all hoped and assumed. Get the Gunn’s off my tv for the next.. however long. FTR celebrates to close the show and are joined by Mark Briscoe <3

1) Jon Moxley (c) vs. RUSH - AEW World Championship Match 

Listen, firstly, I’m not calling Mox the interim World champ because that’s just short selling this run he’s having. Rush had an insane match with Dragon Lee this past weekend and that was enough to get me hyped for this considering how killer Mox is right now. We get the best Mox entrance in recent memory as he comes out super fired up and throwing bottles in the crowd. This match couldn’t have happened at a more perfect moment in time. Rush gets the jump on Moxley early and we see blood from the forehead of the champion just minutes into this. This was a great brawl that fell into the vein of Moxley’s style of match while also leaning into Rush’s brawling side which truthfully isn’t very far off from Moxley’s in a way if you look at some Rush’s past grudge matches and such. This just rocked. Stiff strikes, suplexes, nearfalls and some blood. Everything you expect from 2022 Mox and nothing less. Everything you’d want from Rush after his barnburner with his brother last weekend. Andrade tried to run down to interfere, but the Lucha Bros made the save and ran them off which added some drama to the final stretch. Mox retains off of a paradigm shift.

1) Samoa Joe vs. Johnny Elite - Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Match 

The show opens with Samoa Joe against a mystery joker opponent. The ROH TV Champ enters with his title and awaits the rival of the joker which turns out to be the former John Morrison/Johnny Nitro/Johnny Mundo. This was a letdown for some. I admittedly wanted Claudio Castagnoli, but I will accept this rather than it being someone like Johnny Gargano. There’s been enough bland NXT people joining the team.. so a one off from Morrison? I’m fine with that. The match is fun as well. So no complaints from me. Is it great? Nah! But is it good? Yes. It felt like a match from 2014-2015 Raw that would be getting rave reviews under that platform. But here in AEW, the bar is so high. I’m just glad it wasn’t a melodramatic NXT/Adam Cole style match. It had close falls and big spots, but they didn’t go anywhere near overboard and as a result, I enjoyed the hell out of it. A Joe prolonged squash would’ve also satisfied me just as much, but it won’t complain at all about whag we got because it could’ve been MUCH worse and I enjoyed this more than a lot of recent matches that have made Dynamite. It’s not FTR/Bucks obviously and it’s nowhere near Punk/Dustin even.. but it beats a lot of other stuff. Joe wins to advance to the semi finals.

After the match, Joe is immediately jumped by Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt. Satnam Singh begins walking down the ramp as well. Thankfully THE BOYS are in the building. Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta, & Rocky Romero hit the ring with chairs to run off the bastards.

1) Jeff Hardy (w/ Matt Hardy) vs. Bobby Fish (w/ Kyle O’Reilly) - Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Qualifier 

Yeah this suuuucked. Not like offensively bad.. but not anywhere near good. Crowd was hot! And it was cool seeing Jeff in singles action. That’s about it though. Jeff took a falcon arrow which was nutty. Swanton bomb ends it and Jeff advances thank the lord. I’m dying to see Jeff/Darby in the tournament itself.

THEY AIR THE EPIC LEGENDARY REGAL BCC PROMO FROM “ROAD TO” IN ROUTE TO OUR NEXT MATCH 

2) Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, & Wheeler Yuta vs. Angelico, The Butcher, & The Blade 

NOW WE GET SOME GOOD SHIT. Butch & Blade deserve this match even though the outcome is obvious. Angelico is making TV for the first time in forever which is cool. The Andrade office boys jump BCC during Moxley’s entrance. They end up isolating Yuta and Yuta hits an awesome german on Butcher during his comeback. Moxley gets the hot tag and Jesus Christ man.. the dude just rules. He kicks Blade’s ass all around ringside and flips a table over. It’s not long before we are in the classic BCC finishing sequence with them locking every member in for the elbows followed by submissions for the win. 

Match rating - ***

Backstage, Jurassic Express accepts Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs’ tag title challenge. BUT Jungle Boy wants Starks for the FTW Title next week first.

1) Adam Cole vs. Christian Cage

First time ever meeting here. Christian seems to keep Cole from having too much of a case of NXT brain as his bad habits don’t take the forefront like the Lethal match did the other week. It felt like a 2013 Christian TV match which is not at all a bad thing. If anything, it was nostalgic. But even better because this crowd was hot as fuck. So, yeah. They work a good pace then hit some big nearfalls near the end that the crowd loses their shit for completely. In the end, Cole wins and I’ll let Tony tell the rest..

Match rating - ***

“The termites are out.” -Tony Schiavone 

After the match, ReDragon runs down to attack Christian. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus hit the ring to a huge pop to make the save. Hangman Page ends up coming out once everyone clears out to try and get his hands on Cole AND IT FUCKING RULES. He smushes Cole in the face and they go nose to nose. Page says if Cole wants a title match, he will get it on a live Rampage next week in Texas in a.. TEXAS DEATHMATCH. FUCKKK. Hanger just loves to bleed, man. I swear. This segment felt huge though. Hangman really continues to dig his teeth into his run as THE guy and he’s killing it.

1) CM Punk vs. Dax Harwood 

These two having this match to open the show is so refreshing. Everyone jokes about it being a Bret Hart tribute match, but that just makes me love it even more. This is Punk’s first match and appearance since the classic dog collar match at Revolution a few weeks ago. I’m a massive fan of the Punk/FTR pairing so I was immediately glued to this and they made me love it even more once things got going. Just classic, traditional pro wrestling with no frills or flashy things. They throw some nice counters in down the stretch including an awesome GTS counter from Dax. This rocked. Punk wins after quite the back & forth.

Backstage, the Jericho Appreciation Society is here. Jericho stumbles through a promo about Silver & Reynolds. Garcia & 2.0 crush their lines. Hager stands there looking dumb. They point out that they ran off Santana, Ortiz, & Eddie Kingston as we haven’t seen them in recent weeks. Guess that means we might get a run-in tonight!

Chris Jericho begins the show with his thoughts on Eddie Kingston after his loss to him on Sunday at Revolution. Jericho looks young and sympathetic for once tonight.. I don’t know what he did differently. But yeah, he says he wants Eddie to come out so he can shake his hand because he respects the hell out of him for giving him one of the best matches of entire his career. Eddie comes out and says before they say anything, he wants it to be clear that he didn’t go into the match Sunday with anyone in mind, but the 4 people he met at Fan Fest the day before that said his players tribune interview saved their life. King said he didn’t want to shake Jericho’s hand on Sunday for him, he put his hand out for Jericho because he knows there’s something missing in there that caused him not to shake his hand. Jericho says he really just wants to thank and show respect to Eddie so they shake hands. 2.0 & Daniel Garcia run down and attack them both, but mainly Eddie. Santana & Ortiz run down for the save and JERICHO TURNS ON THEM AND BEAT THEM WITH A BAT. Some stuff shots in there too. This kinda fucking rules. Jake Hager is out next, he teases dissension with Jericho only to plow over Santana & Ortiz and maintain his alignment with Jericho. Hager power bombs Kingston off the apron through a table and it is NASTY. Hager, Jericho, 2.0 & Garcia do the Inner Circle middle finger pose. This angle fucking ruled and of course Jericho gives this new group a corny ass name.. “the Jericho appreciation society” … ima just pretend that part didn’t happen because otherwise this was awesome. Just call it Inner Circle 2.0 or something, dammit. 

A video package airs on CM Punk’s victory over MJF at Revolution. Punk says if people thought they wanted the old Punk back, they should think again.

The show begins with Wardlow coming to the ring. He has cardboard cutouts of MJF and CM Punk. He hands Justin Roberts a note with a disgruntled look on his face. The note is a script for how MJF, FTR (w/ Tully Blanchard), and Shawn Spears are introduced to the ring. It’s pretty great stuff and the heat is immense. Everyone got their own entrance, but Wardlow. MJF is carried out on a chair / throne thing with people holding him up. He makes out with one of the women for like 30 seconds. He jumps in the ring and celebrates with The Pinnacle as Wardlow watches on. MJF says he’s the best wrestler in the world and after last week, he’s better than the best in the world. Lots of bragging and shitty comments like usual and it’s great. CM Punk walks onto the stage and says he learned his lesson and he’s not coming out here alone anymore. Darby Allin and Sting walk out to join him. All three of them have bats and Punk says MJF can give him a rematch or he can come beat it out of him right now. MJF makes excuses as to why he can’t and Punk tries to coax Wardlow into turning on the Pinnacle because he’s the only reason any of them win any matches. Dax Harwood speaks up and says Punk, Darby & Sting should be asking for a rematch against them from last December. OK LETS GO. Punk says they’re down for it, but MJF speaks up because of course he doesn’t wanna be involved so MJF pitches the wager —- Punk can get his rematch, but only if he & a partner of his choosing that isn’t Darby or Sting can defeat FTR TONIGHT. OH MY GOD. AEW doesn’t run these type of angles often and with the rumors swirling about tonight, I AM SO FUCKING STOKed to see who Punk picks. I hope it’s Samoa Joe. AHHHHH !!!

Backstage, Andrade El Idolo runs into Darby Allin & Sting. Andrade says he’s happy to have finally found Darby’s boss. Darby says his focus isn’t on him, it’s on the TNT title. Andrade says that’s funny because he wants to be TNT Champion, too..

1) Jon Moxley vs. Wheeler Yuta

Yuta is replacing Brian Kendrick. Kendrick was supposed to make his AEW debut tonight, just 24 hours after receiving his requested WWE release. Then, everyone discovered that he’s a Holocaust denying nut job so TK pulled him from this show and rightfully so. Fuck that shit. This is built off of Mox squashing Yuta last fall. Here, Yuta charges Mox with a drop kick at the bell and misses, but avoids a lot of offense from Mox early. Yuta gets a good bit in here and looks awesome before Moxley puts him away with some elbows (a message to Bryan Danielson) followed by the paradigm shift DDT.

Match rating - **1/2

After the match, Bryan Danielson shows up. We all thought Danielson wanted to fight Moxley, BUUUUT Danielson says he actually wants to team with Mox. Bryan says there’s no reason a millennial cowboy should be world champion. No reason a dinosaur should be tag team champion. And no reason a vlogger should be TNT Champion. Danielson says they could run this place together and maybe even bring up a group of guys like Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Lee Moriarty and train them to be the future of pro wrestling. Bryan offers Mox a handshake, but Mox is torn and just stand there. Bryan says he will give him time to think about it then leaves. Wild Thing plays as Mox stands there. I’m not particularly interested in a Mox/Danielson team actually being a thing, but I like the spin they are putting on this program and I hope

This is to “unify” the interim TNT title and the real one that Cody holds. After a month or two of being insignificant, both of these guys proceeded to absolutely show the fuck out here. The first truly great match on Dynamite this year since Hangman/Danielson and after a rewatch, I feel ashamed not giving this a flat 4 stars and going with ***3/4 on the Up & Over Live Review we did after the show. So now, here I stand, a few days later rectifying my tragic quarter star mistake. This rocked. Sammy’s springboard flying cutter thing off the ladder.. you know what I’m talking about, fucking blew my mind and will be replayed for years and years to come.. honestly as long as AEW exists. Good job, guys, you saved what was a terrible feud and title reign for the both of you. Now, Sammy just needs to keep this energy so this second reign is better than his first which was arguably the worst of any TNT title reign so far. So yeah, this was a great, great match. Sammy wins aaaaaaand yea!

The show opens with Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, & Bobby Fish making their way to the ring. Cole says 2021 was a good year for he and the boys, but 2022 will be even bigger. He reminds everyone that he is undefeated in AEW and that the boys are here. Cole says this is a new era in AEW. The Young Bucks come out and remind O’Reilly & Fish that this is their company and they’re the longest reigning tag team champions in company history and their 2022 resolution? To get the belts back. O’Reilly says he & Fish have the same resolution. Cole breaks this up before it gets too intense and says he’s all for some friendly competition and that’s what makes them the best “stable” in AEW unlike a group like the Best Friends who—- CUE BEST FRIENDS. LETS GO BABY. CHUCKIE ORANGE GREG AND YUTA!!!! Cole asks Orange what is one thing he has to say that means anything and ORANGE SPEARS DOWN COLE AND A BRAWL BREAKS OUT YES!! Yes!!! This rules. The SuperKliq/UE crew lays everyone out. Kris Statlander shows up and goes face to face with Cole AND OUT COMES BRITT BAKER!!! BRITT CURBSTOMPS KRIS AND KISSES HER REAL LIFE BOYFRIEND ADAM COLE. Beautiful, just beautiful. Been waiting on Cole & Britt to finally be together on screen. At points, I wondered if it would even happen, well, it has and it’s just as perfect as I anticipated. This Best Friends/Superkliq feud seems to have regained a fire it didn’t have coming off that terrible trios match to close out the last Dynamite of 2021.

1) “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Bryan Danielson - AEW World Title Match 

This was just absolutely incredible. After the 60 minute draw they had on 12/15, they really had a lot to live up to and somehow they did it. Not that I ever doubted them. I knew this would rock. I did not know it would be this brutal nor did I think Danielson AND Page would be gushing. But boy, they were and it was fucking nuts. They really worked this perfectly. Early on, Danielson did all the stuff he did in the first match. The running and jumping jacks. Page doesn’t hesitate, he goes hard after Danielson and has an awesome flurry. My favorite part about the opening tid bits is that Page does the jumping jacks and shit later on once he busts Danielson open. A lot of awesome callbacks like that hidden in here. Too many to name, honestly. This match really was the perfect counterpart to their first encounter and on top of that, they wrestled this match with a brutality & stiffness that I don’t think will be matched anytime soon. A truly extreme and stellar performance from both guys. Danielson goes after the arm early to try to eliminate the buckshot. Page fights through and they end up on the outside and he’s able to send Danielson in the post and bust him open the same way Danielson did to him in their first match. Things really turn up to a new level here and words can’t even describe the intensity of the final 10 minutes. When all is said and done, Hangman finally is able to hit the Buckshot lariat and retain his World Championship after another classic match with Danielson. Wow. That was the only word I could muster when this was over. Good luck to whoever tries to top this and have a better match in the next 11 and a half months.

CM Punk opens the show, but not in the fashion you’d expect. MJf’s music hits and his hometown crowd loses their mind… only for CM Punk to walk up through the tunnel. This set the stage for one of the most odd, but interesting promos since Punk joined the company. The crowd largely booed Punk and I don’t think he even anticipated them to be that partisan toward MJF considering he IS the heel in the program and has been the antagonist the entirety of his AEW career. But they were partisan and not ashamed of it, either. Punk almost seems taken aback and repeats a line about the Islander’s a couple of times, but he does lean deeper towards villainous Punk and that alone is cool! He closes by calling the crowd chicken shits then leaving LMAO. I enjoyed this more than last week’s garbage so hell yea.

1) Bryan Danielson vs. Alan Angels 

God damn right. First things first, I’m a big Kenny Omega fan, but I was not a fan at all of his matches with Alan Angels. This, however? This fucking rocked. Danielson just knows how to work every match in a way that makes sense. The Omega/Angels matches were largely just movefests and I never bit on any of it. Here, Danielson works this at just the perfect pace that some of the near falls are actually SLIIIGHTLY believable. Barely, but enough to make me say oh shit that was cool that was almost the finish! So, yeah. The Dragon continues to reign supreme.

THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING EXTRAVAGANZA. LETS GOOO. 

And what a way to start it off with CM Punk in a 20 minute verbal exchange with MJF. This is the longest promo (I guess that’s the word) segment in company history and it is well deserved. Both of these guys truly showed the rest of the locker room exactly how to grab every person in the room AND everyone watching at home by the collar of the shirt. They kept everyone on the edge of their seat and hanging on every word for 20 minutes and guess what? I think most of us still want more! The references and punchlines here are too many to try to name or list. Punk calling MJF a less famous Miz and saying he had been replaced in the Four Pillars by Britt Baker cannot go unmentioned though. Just phenomenal stuff and MJF proved he can more than hang with someone the caliber of Punk, if there was ever any doubt otherwise.

ITS NATIONAL COWBOY SHIT DAY BABY 

Before we get into the new AEW World Champion Hangman Page’s celebration, we cut to the SuperKliq in the back. Kenny Omega says Hangman was the better man and that he needs time away to figure some things out. Omega asks the Bucks to hold down the fort while he’s gone and Adam Cole thinks he’s talking to him so we get SOME AWKWARD TENSION AND FORESHADOWING!! ! The Bucks tell them to cut the camera feed.

Back to the arena, John Silver has the mic and the rest of the Dark Order is behind him. Silver says it’s time to celebrate National Cowboy Shit day and introduces the new AEW World Champion.. our kiNG HANGMAN ADAM PAGE :-) 

Page cuts the best god damn celebratory babyface promo. This segment really just ruled. It’s such simple.. I hate to say it, but simple… WWE Raw style shit but it is never done in AEW and I’m happy they went with an opening segment like this for once. Don’t make us wait til the end of the night to hear from Hangman, we’ve already waited 3 days!!! So yeah. Hangman gets a lot of chants and says the AEW title carries a lot of weight and now is the time to start defending it. Before he can even get to Bryan Danielson, Danielson’s music hits and be congratulations Hangman, but immediately things turn a little sour. Danielson says he’s surprised it’s Page and not Omega standing in front of him. Hanger responds saying he shouldn’t be surprised because he beat him in less than 30 minutes, something Danielson couldn’t do!!! Danielson then pokes fun at Page being in cowboy boots and not wrestling gear. They tease wrestling tonight only for Bryan to sort of use the attire as a way to halfway weasel out, but also he already has a match tonight and it’s next! Awesome seg way. 

1) Bryan Danielson vs. Evil Uno 

Dan & Uno play the hits here. Uno is fast and busts out lucha shit flying around. Danielson just wants to kill him, stiff kicks and forearms. No bullshit whatsoever from Dragon. This was just a fantastic sprint all the way around. Danielson wins and after the match says he wants to face every single member of Dark Order before he gets to Hangman and the title shot so he can kick every single one of their heads in!!! AHHHH!!

Match rating - ***1/4

MJF clip from after his match at the PPV. He screams about being under appreciated for his in ring work and shit. Honestly was scary, he looked like he was gonna blow a gasket! 

Eddie Kingston is backstage and he’s interrupted by 2.0 and Dan Garcia!!!! Hello kings! They poke fun at Eddie and Eddie starts shit with Daniel Garcia anD THEY GO NOSE TO NOSE AHHHH GIVE ME THIS SH IT NOW. Eddie is the best at getting you hyped for matches you had no anticipation for and doing so in literally like 60 seconds. 

2) Tomohiro Ishii & Orange Cassidy (w/ Chuck Taylor, Kris Statlander, Rocky Romero, & Wheeler Yuta) vs. The Butcher & The Blade (w/ Matt Hardy & The Bunny) 

Man wrestling in 2021 is so fucking crazy. Just seeing all this names in one match / segment on national f’n television… amazing. And this was everything it needed to be. Orange got all his stuff in and the dynamic of he & Ishii was perfect. Ishii certainly knows what it’s like to work with someone like him after all the tags he’s had with Yano. CHAOS really isn’t that important nowadays outside of having Okada in it, but it’s super cool to see the stable integrated into AEW television, their entrance here rocked. Ishii gets the hot tag and works some great spots with the Butcher and they built up their face off as a big deal which was cool. They give Ishii a second hot tag later which ruled even more. I thought he was gonna elbow Matt Hardy off the apron for a second which I was gonna pop for. Bunny slipped Blade the brass knucks off the distraction, but before he can use them, Rocky pulls him out of the ring. Hardy throws Rocky into the railing and ORANGE COMES SAILING OFF THE TOP ROPE TO THE FLOOR ONTO HARDY AND BLADE. Crowd went off for that, this was so fun. Ishii nails Butcher with a brainbustaaaa for the victory. 

Match rating - ***1/4 

Backstage, Tony Schiavone is with Andrade El Idolo and FTR & Tully Blanchard. Andrade says it’s time to show Cody Rhodes his bad side. FTR also chimes in and says they were robbed at Full Gear. The three men propose an 8 man tag with them & Malakai vs. Cody/PAC/Lucha Bros. 

Tay Conti, in a video package, says next time she faces Britt she WILL be champion. This cuts to the trio of queens - Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, & Rebel. Britt says she’s tired of carrying the women’s division and directs the spotlight to Jamie Hayter, the future first ever TBS Champion. Tony mentions Jamie has to get through Thunder Rosa first. Britt cuts him off and says we don’t mention her name during her interviews. Britt says Jamie will take out Rosa in route to the finals of the TBS tourney. That match is next week and I am more excited about it than any of the tournament matches so far. Rosa & Hayter might be the two best wrestlers in the division right now in my eyes. 

3) Hikaru Shida vs. Nyla Rose - TBS Title Tournament Match 

These two always seem to cross paths. And when they do, the matches are always solid. This was no different and I liked the build up and how they touched on it in the match. Firstly, Nyla has never beaten Shida. Secondly, Shida tweaked her knee during the tag match both women were involved in on Saturday. Thirdly, Shida pinned Nyla in said tag match. Soooo yeah. They touch on all those things here and give us some nice false finishes. Nyla misses a senton off the top rope and eats shit. Shida goes for a kick off the opening and gets caught in a nasty standing stretch muffler and is forced to tap. Nyla advances in the tournament to face the winner of Statlander/Soho.

Match rating - ***

Malakai Black pre-tape on the 8 man tag coming up in Chicago next week. 

MJF is here now. He mocks Darby some more then just starts gassing himself up. He says there’s no one in the locker room who can hold a candle to him. CM Punk comes out to a huge pop. The staredown between the two gets a “holy shit” chant. Punk doesn’t say a word and MJF extends his hand to introduce and Punk just laughs and walks off. Good shit! Punk didn’t even have to say a word and Excalibur explains the intent of what Punk did as it’s just to piss MJF off. 

Backstage, Darby Allin says MJF didn’t break him and he isn’t taking time off. Darby wants the biggest and baddest that AEW has to offer. Up walks… Billy Gunn. He accepts Darby’s challenge and his sons laugh and one of them says “I like turtles” in reference to that viral video of that kid.. yeah.. idk. Fuck this though lmao. 

Adam Cole is backstage and mad. He is tired of Christian Cage and Jurassic Express. Cole says he wants Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus and that he & Bobby Fish will face them on Rampage. Fish walks up and we get a terrible promo from him teasing saying “undisputed” and ugh I wanna throw up. This is ass cheeks. 

4) Lio Rush & Dante Martin vs. The Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens) 

Oh man.. Dante Martin is such a great face in peril. Crowd is hot for him & Lio. So yeah this naturally builds to an AWESOME Lio hot tag after a commercial break. Lio gets a two count. Shit breaks down and ALL FOUR MEN ARE DOWN AND THE CROWD RISES TO THEIR FEET. Lovely little moment with Tony making me feel nostalgic as he hyped up how there’s still more to come even after this crazy fun tag. Dante hits some more wild stuff as they transition into the finish where Caster rolls out of a pin attempt only for Lio to come flying off the top rope and nail him for the three count.

Match rating - ***1/4 

Team Taz comes out. Taz explains why they offered Dante Martin a contract to join Team Taz, saying it’s all business. Ricky Starks chimes in and says they will wait as long as they have to and mention how long they waited for Hobbs to come around and today is actually the one year anniversary of him joining them. I really hope Dante doesn’t even tease joining them, this tag team with Lio rocks so much. 

Christian Cage is backstage with Jurassic Express. Jungle Boy has shaved the scruff off his face it seems and I’m kinda happy. OMG AS IM TYPING THIS HE MENTIONS HIS SCRUFF BEIN GONE HOLY HELL. 

“Shit, I’ll eat thumbtacks for breakfast.” 

Yea, Jungle Boy killed this. They basically are accepting Adam Cole’s challenge from earlier here. 

ON RAMPAGE: Jade Cargill vs. Red Velvet and Darby Allin vs. Billy Gunn. 

Great Jade/Velvet pre-tape with awesome promos from both. JADE GONNA BEAT THAT ASS. 

NEXT WEEK IN CHICAGO: Rosa/Hayter, Danielson/Cabana, and FTR/Andrade/Black v Lucha Bros/PAC/Cody.

5) Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Jay Lethal - TNT Title Match 

Fucking hell. This is… something. What a PR nightmare we have in this main event. The work here is just fine. Honestly good. More than suffice. I enjoyed the hell out of it. They work a great story, but god damn bud. Think about how much charismatic talent and awesome atheletes were showcased throughout this show. Then, think about the fact that this is being billed as the pinnacle, no pun intended, of it all. I had calmed myself down to the point of enjoying this for the work alone, or at least trying to, then they showed 205 Live Superstar Tony Nese and I just could not LMAO. But truthfully it’s more funny to me than anything at this point. So, I won’t harp on it too much, I’ll save that for the podcast on Friday. But this match? It honestly was good. Sammy sold the ribs, they laid it out super well, the spots ruled. Just sucks both these dudes suck as humans, especially Jay. But here we are so yea. Guevara retains after a match that would probably even be rated slightly higher if it was different people and under different circumstances.

The show closes with Chris Jericho, Santana, Ortiz, & Jake Hager joining their Inner Circle stablemate in the ring for a little celebration. They even embrace Jay Lethal as well. 

Final thoughts: Alright y’all well that was a blast! First hour was phenomenal and second hour didn’t drop off by any means so fuck yeah. It’s nice to see what direction certain things and stats are heading after Full Gear and this was the exact mid-week pick me up that I needed.
